How to Stay Connected with God in Busy Seasons
Sometimes, our hectic lives can get in the way of our relationships - especially our relationship with the Lord.
My college has finals coming up in a week from the day that I'm writing this post, and times are getting hectic. Right now, it seems like most of us can only think about the big exams or projects we have due. It seems like all we can think about is our final grade and our GPA. My thoughts are currently being clouded with this anxiety.
Finals is not the only busy season where we can be disconnected from God. We can be disconnected in times such as summer jobs, midterms, or trying to balance multiple extracurricular activities while in school.
However, it's important that we keep first things first, or first PEOPLE first - JESUS.
Why Do We Need to Stay Connected?
It is important to stay connected with the Lord for a variety of reasons. There are plenty more reasons that this list does not include, but here are 3 reasons why it is important for us to stay connected with the Lord.
God hears our prayers. If we do not pray to God, how is He going to know what we need? While He is aware of what we do, He is able to help you if you just ask! As it says in Psalm 34:15 (CSB), "The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry for help."
God will strengthen us. Through these difficult, busy seasons, we need to put our trust in the Lord, because He is the only one that can strengthen us.
God will stay close to us if we stay close to Him. As it says in James 4:8 (CSB), "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." As I've mentioned in the points before, the Lord hears our prayers and will strengthen us. We need to establish that relationship with Christ to keep that connection with Him! Not only do we need to establish that relationship, but we need to maintain it.
So, how do we maintain it?
I love to stay connected by devoting some time to read my Bible!
How Do We Stay Connected?
There are plenty of ways we can make time for the Lord during these busy, stressful seasons. It's important for us to make time for the Lord because He can help us through our problems more than any person on this Earth can!
Here are some tips on how we can stay connected with the Lord:
Pray often. This prayer does not have to be something big and elaborate. It can be as simple as thanking God for waking you up this morning. When you're walking in nature, you can thank God for His beautiful creation. When you see someone struggling, you can quickly pray for the Lord to help them.
Try not to make spending time with God a thing on your checklist. While sectioning off time to spend with the Lord is amazing, overall, it doesn't matter how many hours you spend with the Lord. It matters how you've spent that time with Him.
Review your schedule. See if there are any times in your schedule where you can block off time to spend with the Lord. However, like I said in my last point, do not become fixated on how much time you spend - focus on what you do in that time you spend.
Listen to worship music or Christian podcasts while you work. I love listening to music while I work on something, and listening to worship music makes it even better! You get to glorify the Lord and focus on your work at the same time (that is, if you don't get distracted singing the lyrics like I do). You can also listen to Christian podcasts if that's more your style! I've been listening to Christ with Coffee on Ice, but I am open to any suggestions!
Don't let this busy season overwhelm you. As Paul instructs in Colossians 3:1-3, we must set our minds on things above, not on earthly matters. While yes, your test is important, do not let it get all of your attention. Instead, ask the Lord to help you be in the right mindset to study for your test and ask the Lord to help you gain the strength needed to take the test.
Overall, staying connected with the Lord in busy seasons is important, because He is the only one that can fulfill us! How will you choose to stay connected with Him?
